When it comes to developing brute strength for combat sports nothing is better than good old fashion strongman training.
Regardless of your support if it be BJ DJ, MMA, judo and our wrestling the need for strength is a necessity next to conditioning.
Through my past 20 years of strength training and strength coaching I personally feel that our object training with the masses calls strongman training is the most efficient way to train grapplers or anyone in a combative sport.
I have seen many coaches in many different types of programs try to mimic this type of farm boy strength but nothing can take the place of actually picking up odd objects.
In the video I show you two different log exercises. Here are some sample workouts.
Workout - 1
Log Squat to Shoulder
(Switch shoulders each set)
5 sets x 5,4,3,2,1 reps
Workout - 2
Log Squat to Shoulder Carry
50 yards switch shoulders walk back.
Repeat 10 times
Workout - 3
Log Hand Walks (see video)
5 sets x 3 flips
The possibilities are endless when it comes to our object training. First thing to remember is don’t use this type of training for conditioning get used to moving these objects in a safe effective manner first.
